Oooh I am happy – I have on my desk the stunning Geek Vape Aegis Mini Kit!

I have been so close to actually buying this as this looks like the perfect kit for me!

The Geek Vape Aegis Mini Kit

The mod as you can see is a miniature version of the original Geek Vape Aegis and the dual battery Aegis Legend. However this version is weeny and has a 2200mAh internal battery.

You still get a nice screen and the output is adjustable up to 80W. The chipset is the AS Chipset as used in the bigger Aegis versions and guess what – it is still Waterproof, Shockproof and Dust-proof!

The kit includes the Cerberus tank which also comes in the excellent Geek Vape Nova kit and has 0.3ohm Super Mesh coils.

There are 5 colours to choose from – Black & Green, Stealth Black, Black & Blue, Camo & Gunmetal and Black & Red.

Build Quality & Design

I received the Geek Vape Aegis Mini kit in the Black and Green version.

It is beautiful!!

The colour match between the green accents on the mod and the ones on the tank looks incredible too!

Geek Vape Aegis Mini Mod

This is so so so gorgeous in real life.

Little details such as the stitching on the hand grip panel – exactly like the larger versions. The colour of the stitching matches the metal mod accents and the tank accents perfectly.

This tiny little mod gives you the feel of a perfectly created miniature replica!

Every little detail is smaller and even cuter on this!

On the side of the mod is the screen which is clear and bright no issues with this at all. The adjustment buttons are below the screen and are the clicky-est-tap-dancing-shoe-noise buttons I think I have ever encountered!

The fire button is above the screen and is really small. It doesn’t have the “Rocker” switch style the bigger Aegis versions have. But perfectly responsive I just keep missing it as it is small!

The spring loaded 510 connector on the top of the mod is held in with 3 visible screws but all seems secure and no problems here. Measuring across the 510 I would say 26mm tanks should fit on here without overhang and possibly up to 28mm diameter.

On the base of the mod is the battery vent holes and the plug which you remove to access the USB charging port.

The body has a rubbery feel and it does attract fluff, but it is lovely to hold and the metallic accents and leather panel all fit perfectly. Please excuse all the fluff this has accumulated over the 2 weeks in use. Just to make it worse the tank keeps leaking so wiping the mod with a tissue is turning it into a fluffball too!

But one tip I have found a simple rinse under the tap will remove all the fluff!

Geek Vape Cerberus Tank

This is an odd creature but quite pretty.

The drip tip is huge in diameter however the centre hole is about the same size as a 510 tip!

I did find an 810 drip tip with O-rings will fit.

At the base of the tank is the adjustable airflow control ring which is super smooth without being loose and “spinny”.

You have an unscrew type top cap for refilling but it is only 90° turn to remove and replace so nice touch there Geek Vape. There are 2 filling ports under the top cap and I had no issues using 10ml or 80ml bottles to refill with.

I have had a few leaks from this tank when I first filled up. I took the base off the tank and found the installed coil was loose – so make sure to check that before you first fill up.

However as time went by I still get leaks when the mod is tipped over – even when taking the photos for this review I was mopping up behind it.

Stress Test

So as this is marketed as being Shockproof, Waterproof and Dustproof I ought to at least try and test this claim out!

I am not going to test the Cerberus tank – as quite frankly with it leaking that tells me “where e-liquid can escape then water will get in!”

So to start off I dropped the Aegis Mini mod into a bucket of water – then I turned it on to see if it would still work whilst submerged and when removed from the water.

After the drop test the mod did sustain some external cosmetic damage – sob – broke my heart – but it works fine and no damage to the screen either. 

Thankfully there are many spare parts available for this mod – so I will get a new skeleton on order from here…

I didn’t fancy the Freezing in the freezer test as you cannot remove the battery from this model which made me poo my pants a bit at the thought of it expanding and becoming damaged.

Also I will leave the mod to dry for a few days – as some times circuit board damage only shows up when it starts to rust.

Set-up Guide

The mod and tank arrive in the box separately. You will need to fill the tank, charge the battery and screw them both together. Then away you go…

Mod Basic operation

Turn mod on or off = 5 clicks of the fire button

To lock/unlock mod = hold + and – adjustment buttons down at the same time. You can still fire the mod but the adjustment buttons are locked. A small padlock symbol will be displayed on the screen.

To enter the Menu = press the fire button quickly 3 times.

To exit the Menu = press and hold the fire button or wait 5 seconds without pressing any buttons.

Adjust power / temperature = use the up and down adjustment buttons

Menu

The menu system on this is pretty simple.

Three clicks of the fire button will highlight one of the functions on the screen. Click the fire button to move onto the next function or the adjustment buttons to adjust.

Power – when this function is highlighted use the adjustment buttons to select which power mode you require – Power (Variable Wattage), Ni, SS, Ti (Temperature control modes), TCR, VPC (Custom curve mode) and Bypass. Press fire when the required mode is showing on the screen.

Temperature Control – you select the applicable mode depending on the coil material you are using (Ni= Nickel 200, Ti = Titanium, SS = Stainless Steel).

Coil resistance = when in TC or TCR mode select the coil resistance and press the – adjustment button to lock this. This should be done with a cold coil before using temperature control modes.

TCR – select the TCR mode as stated above. Using the adjustment buttons set the TCR parameters and press and hold fire to confirm.

VPC – select the VPC power mode. Using the adjustment buttons adjust the parameters and press fire to confirm. You can do this for up to 5 memory slots.

Puff Counter – when this is highlighted press the + adjustment button to clear the counter – press the + button again to cancel clearing the counter.

Safety Features

The mod also has the following safety protections:

Low voltage (battery needs charging)

Device overheating

10s fire cut off (to prevent accidental firing and damage)

Anti-dry prompt (Temperature control mode)

How To Charge The Battery

To make sure that the mod stays waterproof the USB charging port is covered with a watertight plug – so try not to lose it!

This can apparently support 2A charging – however I was charging using the USB on my PC which I think does only output 0.5A. The charging time from an empty battery was 1 hour 15 mins roughly which is ace really.

Pop your nail in the little cut out on the USB port plug.

Lift up the plug.

Install the small end of the USB cable into the charge port.

Install the other end of the cable into a suitable USB outlet.

Whilst charging the screen will show a battery graphic.

When fully charged the screen will go blank.

How To Fill The Tank

Unscrew the top cap – it only takes about half a turn.

Add e-liquid to the filling ports (not the centre hole!). 

Watch the liquid level through the tank glass.

Replace the top cap.

How To Change The Coil Head

An excellent feature of the Geek Vape Cerberus tank is the ability to use coil heads from other manufacturers. The Smok V8 Baby, Vaporesso GT and Eleaf HW coils will all fit and work in here – just make sure the resistance and power required will suit the mod.

Remove the tank from the mod.

Turn the tank upside down and unscrew the base.

If a coil is installed unscrew it from the base.

Screw a new coil into the base.

Replace the base onto the rest of the tank.

Fill the tank and leave to stand for a good 10-15 mins as this has mesh coils which if not fully soaked in e-liquid will feel like vaping hot tar.

How Does the Geek Vape Aegis Mini Kit Perform

Flavour & Cloud Production

This is a Sub Ohm tank so it is best to use thicker e-liquid with a lower nicotine strength.

Ideally a minimum of 70% VG content. We tell you all about these terms in our Guide to PG and VG in E-liquid.

I am using my usual E-liquid – Stika Bombz Fruit Salad which is 80% VG and 6mg nicotine.

Super Mesh X2 Coil

Both coils in the full kit are the same specification.

This is a 0.3ohm coil made from KA1.

The rated power is 30-45W and the “Best” recommended power is 30-40W.

I found myself using this at 45W. I just felt it needed a bit more Oomph.

The clouds from this are surprising when you think of the low wattage you are running it at!

The flavour is pretty good – not the best I have had from a mesh coil but by no means terrible. I found the Uwell Nunchaku tank which you can run at 40W is better for flavour and that has standard rather than mesh coils. Also the Vaporesso NRG tank with the CCELL coil which only needs around 30W was better flavour in my opinion. The GT CCELL coil will fit into this tank!

I did find the flavour improved after a few tank fulls of e-liquid so it appears there is a short “bedding in” period. So far the coil life has been great at over 700 puffs.

Airflow wise – you can fully close off the airflow and fully open there is some restriction with a bit of a whistle. If you are expecting the virtual no restriction of say a TFV12 Prince tank then this will be too restricted for you.

I enjoy a restricted DTL vape and I tend to have this in the half open position. For an explanation of what the term “DTL” means read our guide to MTL and DTL Vaping Styles.

I will say this tank is not as thirsty as a lot of mesh sub ohm tanks – but it is higher resistance and running at lower power. After a week of use the performance of this coil has not decreased either.

Geek Vape Aegis Mini Mod Performance

I have no fancy gear to test the accuracy of the mod – so I used the Cerberus tank on my Voopoo Alpha One mod at 45W and the same on the Aegis Mini mod and found no difference in performance. So from what I can tell the Aegis Mini is outputting pretty much the same power.

I also tried the Freemax Fireluke Mesh tank on both mods set at 65W and again the performance seemed to be equal between both mods.

The fire button is very responsive even though I keep missing it!

I do find the adjustment buttons weird. Single short presses result in 0.1 increment adjustments. Hold the button down and it will fly through in 1.0 increments. But it really does fly quick and hard to let go in time at the setting you want!

The screen is lovely and clear and despite being dropped and knocked over this little mod still works an absolute treat. I have had no issues or errors with the mod at all.

Battery Life

This is a pretty basic device in terms of only a small 2-colour screen and no flashing bling lights.

The power / temperature setting and your vaping habits will obviously cause a variation in battery life. But to give you a guide vaping at 45W regularly I got 315 puffs and just over 5 hours.

As the battery level drops (Like on the original Aegis) it will not output full power. You find even set at 45W it will only put out like 24W – then the battery weak prompt comes up. At this point the tank has already started to flood as it is too low power to vaporise the liquid sufficiently.

Pros

One of the prettiest kits I have ever seen – like a miniature version of the bigger Aegis models.

Build quality is superb, all the accents and finishes are perfect.

So robust – this has fell of a shelf 3 times onto a hard desk and coped with the leaking tank when first installed and not a blemish or issue from this.

Even on my old PC charging at 0.5A it only took 1 hour 15 mins to fully charge.

Surprisingly good battery life.

Ability to use other brand coils in the Cerberus tank.

Cons

The installed coil was loose in the tank – so make sure to check before filling.

I still kept getting leaks from the tank whenever it was tipped over slightly even with 80%VG liquid and I took it apart several times to check all was ok.

The rubber coating does attract more fluff than a boiled sweet in a trouser pocket.

There are better tanks out there for flavour at the same wattage.

Final Review Verdict

I love this little mod. It is so cute, so lovely in your hand and it just does what you ask of it. Plus in the tradition of the Aegis range so far in the hands of a clumsy arse like me it hasn’t skipped a beat either.

The included Cerberus Tank was OK. This has higher resistance coils than those used in the Nova kit and the performance was decent. Not horrendous but not something I would rave about either.

I possibly would suggest something like the Uwell Nunchaku tank on here as that runs well at like 40W. At similar power levels the Nunchaku tank is far superior for flavour in my opinion. Other suggestions are the Vaporesso NRG tank with the CCELL ceramic coil  – which only needs around 30W, Eleaf Melo 4 or a MTL style tank such as the Innokin T20S.

Aegis Mini Kit Review

Of course you can also try some of the Smok V8 Baby, Eleaf HW or the lovely Vaporesso CCELL coils in this tank too – which may improve the performance. I will be popping a CCELL coil in here myself as I think they are great.

Running some of the better mesh tanks such as the Freemax Mesh Pro would be a pain as the mod only outputs 80W and with an internal battery constant use at 75W on the Freemax tank will mean your battery life will be poor. However running the Geek Vape Aegis Mini mod at 45W the battery life was way better than I was expecting!
